There’s just something about the Upper Peninsula. It’s quiet, wild, and a little unpredictable — in the best way. The kind of place where you can stand on the shore of Lake Superior and feel like the world has paused for you.

Cassie and Brian chose to elope in Copper Harbor, and honestly, it couldn’t have been a better fit. Their day was calm, laid-back, and full of emotion. No big guest list or strict schedule — just the two of them, their closest people, and Michigan’s most beautiful backdrop.

Getting Ready in the Heart of Copper Harbor

They started the morning at one of the cutest red cabins in town, tucked among the trees. Cassie got ready inside with her hair pinned back and her dress hanging outside on the porch — a quiet moment that felt really special.

Meanwhile, Brian got ready nearby, adjusting his tan suit and green tie while sneaking glances at the lake. The vibe was simple and intentional, just like the rest of their day.

Their Lake Superior Ceremony

The ceremony took place right on the rocky beach, with the waves rolling in and the breeze catching her veil. A few close family members stood by as they exchanged vows and shared a sand ceremony — a little tradition that fit perfectly with their lakeside elopement.

The whole thing was calm and full of laughter. Nothing rushed. No stress. Just two people soaking in one of the prettiest corners of Northern Michigan.

Afterward, we explored the shoreline together — wandering over rocks, laughing at the wind, and letting the moment unfold naturally. It’s one of my favorite parts about elopements like this: there’s space to breathe, slow down, and take it all in.

Where to Elope in Copper Harbor + the Upper Peninsula

If you’ve been thinking about eloping in the Upper Peninsula, Copper Harbor should be at the top of your list. It’s small and peaceful, but packed with incredible spots to say “I do.” A few local favorites:

And if you want a cozy dinner afterward or a small reception space, Mariner North Resort and Keweenaw Mountain Lodge are both nearby and perfect for small celebrations.

Tips for Planning an Upper Peninsula Elopement

  1. Weather can change fast. Even in July, it’s smart to bring layers.
  2. Book early. Lodging in Copper Harbor fills up months in advance.
  3. Plan for weekdays. It’s quieter and easier to find a private spot for your ceremony.
  4. Support local vendors. There are so many talented small businesses up here — from florists to bakeries to photographers who know the area inside out.
  5. Leave room to explore. The best moments usually happen between the “planned” ones.

Celebrating in True U.P. Style

After the ceremony, they headed to a cozy lodge nearby for dinner with family. The room was filled with warm light, laughter, and the smell of comfort food — the perfect ending to a relaxed and meaningful day.

No fancy timelines. No distractions. Just connection, joy, and a little bit of Lake Superior magic.
