I may be biased, but I think wedding photos are the most important part of planning a wedding. After the cake is eaten and the memories begin to fade, photos are the one thing that will live on, shared with generations to come.

Here are a few things to consider…

1. Choose wisely!

This may seem obvious, but it’s a good one. Choose a photographer not JUST based on style (although this is important) but based on VIBE! You should adore spending time with them. You will spend more time with your photographer on your wedding day than with almost anyone else – you bet your ass you should get along with them! If you have an uncomfortable experience, you’ll remember that every time you look at your photos as well. Choose a photographer who’s artwork you love and who you click with personally as well.

2. Book your engagement shoot with your photographer.

Booking your engagement shoot with your photographer is a super easy way to get a feel for their style, as well as to connect with them personally! It’s a very low-key way for you and your photographer to get to know each other before your wedding. That way, you’ll be fast friends by the time the big day rolls around.

3. Venue is key.

Your venue plays an important role in the vibe of your photos. If you want light and airy photos, choosing a venue with a dark and moody interior is going to affect the feel of your album. Vice Versa, if you want dark and moody photos, you won’t get as much of that feeling if your venue is bright and colorful! Choose a venue that has good lighting, but that really embodies the feeling you would like your wedding photos to have.

4. It’s all in the details, baby!

During the hustle of your wedding day, the chances you remember every little item you’d want in a flat lay are slim to none. So be ready! Grab all of your little detail items, and place them in a box or bin. If you’re feeling really fancy, you could even label it. When your photographer arrives and asks for your details for a flat lay, you’ll be able to just hand them a box – easy! Some good things to include in this box are rings, jewelry, accessories, shoes, wedding invitations, perfume, or anything unique to you and your spouse.

Wedding photos are so much more than just a few photos you share on social media – they are documentation of the start of your new life together. After spending months planning each detail of your day, it’s important to make sure your memories will be well preserved.
